Beautiful Hats and Colors Rule

Updated: Sep 13, 2021

Artist's Statement:

This series of paintings of the odd, the curious, and the strange, shows items I came across in two curiosity shops in a historic district in Tampa, Florida.

At first glance, the main elements in this painting seem beautiful but otherwise ordinary –– a hat, a box, and a stand to display the hat. But the stand comprises and elegant face and graceful neck, the box is curved and beaded, and the hat presents vivid and rich colors

in a fanciful shape.

Strange things are mind-openers because when we see something strange we immediately start thinking! Anything bizarre activates your brain; anything usual makes you sleep!

It was strange, I reflected . . . that even in the weirdest circumstances, the most

troubling episodes of one's life, the greatest divides from home and familiarity,

there were these moments of undeniable joy.

It is the source of all true art and science."
