Dreaming of Beijing

Artist's Statement:

During my visit to Tsinghua University in Beijing, a student gave me a tour of the grounds and further, off campus, to see the Old Summer Palace. We walked around the Palace grounds for several hours. There is a beautiful public park on the grounds where hundreds of people, families and students strolled and enjoyed the view and the calm and serenity of the park.

When I returned to the States I had my model pose in a kimono I had bought in China, to revive my dreams of that wonderful time and place.

There is one spectacle grander than the sea, that is the sky;

there is one spectacle grander than the sky,

that is the interior of the soul.

Victor Hugo

Les Misérables

Say not, “I have found the truth,” but rather, “I have found a truth.”

Say not, “I have found the path of the soul.” Say rather, “I have met the soul walking upon my path.” For the soul walks upon all paths.

The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.

The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.

Kahlil Gibran

The Prophet

“I wish you to know that you have been the last dream of my soul.”

Charles Dickens

A Tale of Two Cities
