Masked Model with Plume and Bow

Artist's Statement:

This series of paintings of the odd, the curious, and the strange, shows items I came across in two curiosity shops in an historic district in Tampa, Florida.

A hat with a matching feather atop a hat stand which also displays an intricate necklace and an elaborate mask. The hat and its plume resonate in color with the adjacent velvet bow. In contrast with earlier postings, in this painting the stand performs its usual, mere supporting function. It is the extraordinary verisimilitude of the mask which takes the composition out of the ordinary.

A mask tells us more than a face.

Oscar Wilde

There is a face beneath this mask, but it isn't me. I'm no more that face

than I am the muscles beneath it, or the bones beneath that.

Steve Moore, V for Vendetta

One of the greatest tragedies in life is to lose your own sense of self and

accept the version of you that is expected by everyone else.

complimented by words of wisdom from a diversity of others.

It is the source of all true art and science."
