Miriam II - Color Study

Updated: Sep 13, 2021

Artist's Statement:

This color study shows Miriam a little older than in the painting posted last Friday. She has now followed her baby brother, Moses, in his basket of reeds, along the banks of the Nile, to a swampy area where he will be rescued by Pharaoh’s daughter.

My model for this color study is another of the remarkable sisters I mentioned in last Friday’s posting. These three sisters are similar enough in appearance to serve as models for the same historical person, while each sister imparts her own, distinctive character.

attributed

When a long, long time later, he stares down at the silent

blue marble of the earth and thinks of his sister,

as he will at every important moment of his life.

He doesn't know this yet,

but he senses it deep down in his core.

So much will happen, he thinks,

that I would want to tell you.
