When I was growing up, anyone who knew anything about fine wine understood that to speak of fine wine was to speak of French wine. Today, there are vineyards around the world that produce fine wines: from California to Italy to Israel to Australia.
The wine in the painting - Pullus - comes from Ptujska Klet, the oldest winery in Slovenia. The winery's cellars date back to 1239.

Alonso of Aragon was wont to say in commendation of age,
that "age appears to be best in four things -
old wood best to burn, old wine to drink,
old friends to trust and old authors to read."
Men are like wine - some turn to vinegar,
but the best improve with age.
